New measure already generating interest as entrepreneurs explore new markets amid evolving trade conditions and competitive pressures
Toronto, October 14, 2026 – Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s recent announcement of the Productivity Mega-Deduction comes at an opportune time for Canadian business leaders and SME owners to consider using business aviation to increase productivity.
The proposed measure allows enterprises to depreciate the full cost of an eligible aircraft in the year it becomes available for use, rather than having to piecewise depreciate it over several years under the current tax rules. To be eligible, a new or used aircraft, subject to the applicable rules, must have been acquired and be available for use by the company on or after September 15, 2026.
Put simply, it allows businesses to deduct the cost of an aircraft much sooner than under existing (previous) rules and thereby seeing immediate impacts to their bottom line and operational efficiencies. Thanks to Prime Minister Carney’s new initiative, the company recoups its investment first and pays taxes second allowing the business to focus on productive growth and expansion.
Canadian businesses can now benefit from tax incentives comparable to those available to their U.S. counterparts. This more competitive environment is especially timely, as growing pressure on cross-border trade prompts Canadian business leaders to explore new markets quickly, both across Canada and abroad.
“This is transforming how Canadian business leaders can use private aviation as a productivity tool. Chartright’s trusted advisors help them maximize their productivity with private aviation to support their goals, reduce travel time and create a secure working environment in the air,” says Ben Boehm, COO, Chartright Air Group.
Business Aviation – A Powerful Productivity Tool
Business aviation enables entrepreneurs and business leaders to maximize productivity through tailored flight schedules, rapid access to aircraft and private boarding away from crowded passenger terminals. In business aviation, the value lies in the time saved.
Our clients understand that a private jet combines faster connectivity with a private cabin where colleagues can conduct business securely and confidentially. The aircraft becomes a productive extension of their workplace.
Flying privately eliminates both ends of the journey: customs, security lines, waiting for bags. That is the principal advantage, and aircraft speed compounds it.
For example, a Montreal-based SME owner can fly to Toronto for a morning meeting, continue to Winnipeg to meet a new client over dinner, and return to Montreal by the end of the day. Such a tailored itinerary offers scheduling flexibility unavailable with scheduled commercial airline service and eliminates hours spent in airports waiting for connections.
Accelerated Depreciation Impact on Canadian SMEs
SMEs make up the backbone of Canada’s GDP and overall economic flow. Given Canada’s vast geographic footprint a multi-site SME is not uncommon, and their facilities are typically distributed in locations with similar industrial or commercial concentrations. Even within a 3 neighboring province site distribution – the average SME would easily accumulate 75-100 flight hours of utilization for normal business activities.
A representative SME example begins with a company that has $95M CAD in topline revenue and taxable profit of $20M in a typical year. With a corporate tax rate of 26% this results in $3.2M in annual revenue taxes owing to the Canadian government. The SME purchases a $10M super-light or mid-size business jet.
With the new Productivity Mega Deduction, the SME can immediately benefit from a $2.6m reduction in federal taxes owing in that year. Combined with modest charter sales facilitated through Chartright Air Group, annual operating costs can be as low as $39,000 a month.
“The new Productivity Mega-Deduction tax incentive is already generating interest in the market. Canadian entrepreneurs understand the value of business aviation when they need to meet new or established clients face to face across Canada and in the U.S.,” says Ben Boehm, COO, Chartright Air Group. “Our role is to enable them maximizeto maximize their time in support of their business objectives. We provide a turnkey solution by managing every operational detail of their flight schedule, allowing them to focus on productivity.”
